Stoke-On-Trent rockers Livid bring their debut album ‘One’ to the masses, and form an impressive start to their career, with many a famous fan. Suffering the loss of their mentor and producer in 2005, this drove the band to move forward with more motivation than ever before.
You can basically describe their sound as a little early Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, and Cream all rolled into one with vocals extremely similar to that of Geddy Lee (Rush) – and our colleague at metal team agrees to this fact. Mixed together with a thoroughly British take on the music this album produces quality tunes right from the start with ‘Freakshow’. The melody and chorus are memorable and make you want to sing along instantly. Lead breaks and riffing in general has the definitive rock and roll vibe. Justin Hawkins of The Darkness has described these guys as the next Tyler and Perry. There is not much you can disagree with this comment, perhaps in a small way, yes they are. Livid have all the aces up their sleeve and here produce a killer rock and roll CD, recording the album on analogue equipment also gives the tunes that authentic feel too.
Psy Ward’s vocals are killer, note for note they give professional execution, backed with Steve Paris’ lead breaks, it has all the boxes ticked. ‘Devil’s Bones’ is groovy as hell, maybe a Robert Plant influence or two in there too, singing along will be mandatory on this number. ‘Lost Lady Love’ brings in the American LA Guns influence, high energy and rocking in every sense of the word.
There is not much more to say about this release, if you love classic rock and are in the mood for a young fresh band to fly the flag again, you have found all of this with Livid. This relatively young band could have been producing albums for 30 years, there is not any let up in classic rock feel and execution. Live dates are currently on offer in April, be sure to check them out, this will be a good live experience. A top quality release with charisma oozing out of every sweaty gland!
