Artist: Chris Laney
Title: Only Come Out at Night
Type: Album
Label: Metal Heaven Records

Now on album number two, last years ‘One’ album was a damn fine debut release from this famed Swedish producer and musician. Has the same quality transferred into album number two? Yes in some respects, although I find this release more of a duplication of the first album, until ‘One Kiss Tonight’ (listed at track 6 but actually track 3 on the promo version) takes me by surprise. This tune shows great depth, vocal melody and a happy vibe, taking you back to summers listening to Winger, Steelheart and Valentine. The arrangement is simply a comfortable listen, if not a safe one with a massive chorus, but this is what we can take from this genre, there is not going to be too much risk, like a comfortable old pair of shoes.

Musically Chris is no lame duck, this IS quality material, he has a knack for arranging some of the catchiest tunes around and devoting his skills to a genre that is still well loved by many, but not likely to be for the younger generation. For me it’s a little nostalgic, however, times change and tastes change with it, if Chris Laney can write material such as ‘Gotta Run’, a real upbeat number, then there wont be much stopping him. Chris Laney continues to blast out big American tunes akin to the late 1980’s, a great collection of music for the soul and lovers of the more melodic side of hard rock and metal, but you already knew that if you have other releases from this record label.
