British festivals. These words are synonymous with commerciality, crap bands, corporate sponsors, crap beer and bad weather. That is why we often forgo them and head off to Germany where things are done so much better. On the other hand we do well for those indoor ones where the weather can’t get us due to some great dedicated promoters bringing over some of the more underground bands we really want to see. Still we do get a bit hot under the collar seeing the likes of Nuclear War Now Festival line ups again in Germany and wish that something of this level could happen over here. Now it is and the rest of Europe and even further abroad can come to us for this great two day festival.
Spread over the two day event are the following bands who will be spread out over two floors of the venue, ensuring no clashes and with a host of DJ’s playing the sort of music you want to hear between.
Funeral Throne (UK) A ghastly, primitive and satanic act from Wolverhampton. This band do not play often and the trio are hard at work on a new album. Perhaps tracks from it may get a debut airing? http://www.myspace.com/nfbm
Craven Idol (UK) Worshipping the old hordes from Sodom to Beherit and Sarcofago and featuring members of Scythian and Crom Dubh in their ranks. Another trio set to raise hell and audio torture. http://www.myspace.com/cravenidol
Vomitor (Oz) Thrashing Australian death squad whose new album ‘Devils Poison’ almost killed off one of our reviewers. Filthy primitive thrash and squealing riffs will make you puke! http://www.myspace.com/thevomitor
Repugnant (Swe) The much welcome return of these old school masters of death. Back from Beyond The Grave and blasting for Satan. A one off special UK date. http://www.myspace.com/epitomeofdarkness
Nifelheim (Swe) Stockholm’s finest shredders should need no introduction. Black speed metal of the highest order, this lot are always dynamite live and a suitable headline act that will take no prisoners. http://www.myspace.com/nifelheimofficial
Sacrilegious Impalement (Fin) Their debut EP made a great impression and since then the Finns have gone from strength to strength. Their first UK outing should be a glorious march of blackened doom. http://www.myspace.com/sacrilegiousimpalement
Necro Ritual (UK) If you missed this lot just look back through our live reviews and photos. Necro Ritual play uncompromising Pure Anglo-Satanic Black Metal and have come a hell of a long way in the process. http://www.myspace.com/necroritualband
Azarath (Pol) A Polish master class in blackened death with members of Yattering, Damnation and Throneum. Caught this lot at Party San last year and they were suitably full on! http://www.myspace.com/azarath666
The Devil’s Blood (NL) An occult and arcane 70s’ sounding retro magickal doom ceremony. This may musically be a bit different but will fit in with the whole ethos of the event and is guaranteed to deliver a surprise or two. http://www.myspace.com/thedevilsblood
Watain (SWE) Unleashing ‘Lawless Darkness’ this is going to be one hell of an event and one of your first chances to check out tracks from the fantastic new album. Sure sold old favourites will help kick up the stink. http://www.myspace.com/watainofficial
Von (USA) Yes unbelievers they are playing! The Goat will be unleashed for this incredibly rare performance. Having disbanded in 1992 nobody knows quite what to expect from this headlining show!
There will be a metal club night after both of the shows with regular DJ’s from Nocturnal Lust nights as well as guest DJ’s from Europe, underground merchandising stalls, 3 bars, 2 floors, 3 rooms and a late licence.
