Artist: The Atlas Moth
Title: A Glorified Piece of Blue Sky
Type: Album
Label: Candlelight

Heavy, distorted sound. Screams. Dreams. Passages in time. A bit of electronica. Spirit of Neurosis and Isis flying in the air, but with a more melodic approach and with multiple, layered vocals. Drones.

A solid product. What else could I write? The genre occupied by the Atlas Moth is, in a way, depleted and completed; there isn’t much that’s left to be done that hasn’t already. Still, "A Glorified Piece of Blue Sky" is a solid product and for sure it's well produced, which is important - as there is nothing worse than listening to badly recorded distortion and noisy screaming. Despite not being extremely original, the good thing is these dudes still manage to sound interesting. Compositions of the songs are long and twisted, and occasional use of electronic devices gives them that extra, tiny and scratching claw which I miss sometimes in records like these.

There's a certain level of anger and brutality in this music, which is good as otherwise it would blend into the background and cause my headphones to wander off. Three guitars do their jobs, and if you play it loud it'll totally kick your butt! Drumming isn't bad either but the best part of this is the vocals; I have no clue if it's just one multilayered singer or are they all screaming at the same time, but the effect is great and there's a fair amount of good, soft, clean singing as well.

Someone has compared the musical approach of Atlas Moth to Pink Floyd compositions, and I agree as there is a certain level of dreamy psychedelia. If I had to visualise, it’s kind of like a boat floating on the dark lake of unknown depths, being propelled just by the gentle waves. Something smooth and heavy. Like Guinness.

And that reminds me of lunch (must be a liquid one! LH). I'll take The Atlas Moth for another walk. Come on. They're coming from Gotham. They just cannot play pop.
