Title: Lazerdrome
Type: EP
Label: Self-Released

Along with Evile and Gama Bomb, this London collective should really be up there with the best of them when it comes to the UK thrash scene. We have waited impatiently for many a month and I think more than a year at least, for this to gets its release, and now finally, a proper recording from an extremely talented thrash band that has the chance to infect the mutoids of mother earth. Having already been included on Earache Records ‘Thrashing Like a Maniac’ release last year, those not part of the usual gig going public will have had a chance to hear Mutant in their thrashing glory.

‘Scrap Brain Zone’ and ‘Turbo Hyper Ultra Mega Power’ are already live favourites, there is progression in all the instruments been played. This EP was recorded with Paul Fulda (Deceptor) on Bass, but he has since left the band and is now replaced with Jon Kushner (Damnas). Both Atom and Sam’s guitar playing is much tighter and the arrangements whilst being complex, are perfectly executed. It helps when you have famed producer Scott Atkins at the helm too providing a strong audio entertainment source. The band has received a bit of stick in the printed press from one source due to their EP cover art – what’s wrong with it? Nothing that’s what! This perfectly depicts their lyrical expression in the context of the future and science fiction. Moving along to Josh’s drum work, this is pretty spot on too, having plenty of fills and other stuff happening.

When you get to ‘The Rauncher’, now this is what it is all about. This track has just simply stuck out by way of shear audio perfection. Not to overshadow the rest of the EP’s tracks, but this for me is the standout track by a country mile. The maturity oozes especially in the arrangement, time signature changes, and the works. Finally we have a UK band that can keep up with the quality of the American bands showing emotion and melody and not just heads down speed. Their time as part of the Evile road crew during the Megadeth European tour must have provided some inspiration both in the arrangements and guitar work, very Dave Mustaine.

It’s great to see these crazy, fun chaps releasing a recording worthy of any large record label. One hopes that the executives will take note of this quality music from a hard working band. Enter the ‘Lazerdrome’; you will be extremely happy, I know from experience! If they do become the first band to play on the Planet Mars, well I most certainly will be there!
