It’s amazing what a logo can tell you about a band, the predictable spiky shards style of Winds Of Plague hints at deathcore and whilst my assumption is correct the bands music offers a bit more than just slams and chug.
The obligatory intro with spoken voice on ‘Earth’ hints at a concept like approach until a death metal assault bursts forth on ‘Forged In Fire’ with the usual schizoid vocal attack. The speed and ferocity is certainly impressive as the song breaks into Decapitated and Hate Eternal riffage. Even though the songs are your average three and four minute mauling the band packs as much into each without resorting to a technical death metal. As the track progresses you get hints of keyboards permeating the mix and some subtle guitar inflections which is what makes this band a tad different to the rest.
‘Soldiers Of Doomsday’ begins typically in stop-start chug fashion before rampaging into double kick mode. Each section is short-lived as the riffing is superseded by keyboards giving the song a symphonic edge that will have you saying Dimmu Borgir. This symphonic approach continues on ‘Approach The Podium’ which has a melodic vibe that reminds of our own Xerath. The stomp beats that are inserted throughout make way for a huge slam but with keyboards which is certainly interesting in a good way.
The band rarely sticks to any form of template though this is less complex than a band like The Project Hate. The Dimmu effect returns on ‘Chest And Horns’ which has an Egyptian vibe on the hook and a clean shouted vocal style. Whilst I may be hinting at a symphonic metal style the music is predominantly death metal due to the density of the sound and the vocal style. On top of that the band grabs at various genres for their riffs and successfully links them all together into one seamless metal composition. The only difficulty with albums of this nature is the lack of a discernible song with a stand out tune to really enjoy.
If you like Dimmu Borgir, The Project Hate, Xerath or any number of extreme symphonic projects then this will definitely fit your criteria.
