Artist: The Bullet Kings
Title: Long Time Dead
Type: Album
Label: Casket Music

So what exactly is a long time dead? Well on a day that I read about The Sex Pistols launching their own brand of perfume you really have to admit punk rock has died a thousand deaths. It is all a case of flogging a dead horse really and it shouldn’t be. The country has never been more fucked, freedom of movement is totally under control, a police state is being enforced and poverty and crime are rife. All the sycophantic butt munchers are concerned about is wasting stacks of money on rubbish like The Olympics while the economy and unemployment are on a downward spiral and the recession has been brought on by the greed of the super elite tossers who are only concerned with lining their own pockets. Yes punk rock has never been more important, we need to take to the fucking streets and we need to show our dissent and this dissent needs a soundtrack.

Takes a deep breath…..

The Bullet Kings are not that soundtrack!

These three blokes in their 40’s (as am I, so not being ageist here) and love their country as shown on songs like the highly clichéd ‘My Country.’ They even released, by the looks of things, their own World Cup anthem ‘Raise Your Glass From England’ and no doubt shrugged off their heroes appalling display with their mates, whilst on their own cried dismally into their beer. This is disposable throwaway punk at its crassest and yes the irony of that word is meant. It’s so generic it is beyond belief and whilst they are praising their country they are bemoaning the fact on the next song that they have ‘No Money, No Nothing,’ well there is a reason for that, do the maths. It’s probably ok if you are one of those plastic punks in middle bank management who go out once in a blue moon to see a band like The UK Subs or The Anti Nowhere League and after a few pints of piss catch this lot as a support band and discover the best thing since 1977 when bread was 5p a loaf. But fuck it, those who are not plastic punks want more than this. Go catch a group like The Subhumans, or Jello Biafra, still relevant, still political and still kicking against the pricks and shake your head in regret next time you pass this in the 50p bargain bin at the local record shop. Oh sorry I forgot the local record shop does not exist anymore.

I should put a postscript here in defence of the band, they do what they do well enough and if that’s what you are looking for, well enjoy. It seems that the band are enjoying themselves and are hardly doing what they do for vast amounts of cash, so on that level fair play to them! I’m sure it gives them pleasure away from the drudgery of the day jobs.
