These war obsessed Americans also find favour with the teachings of old school death metal, namely of the Swedish variety, based on their guitar sound and song structures with a few thrash influences (like early death metal) to keep up some of the momentum. Battling ahead with tunes, themed mainly from the Second World War using many news broadcast dialogs and recordings to add atmosphere to the intros. ‘Bayoneted and Butchered’ and ‘War Machine’ are perfect examples of sheer brutality and disregard for the technical wizardry sometimes associated in metal these days. Far away are thoughts of technical perfection, Invasion bring a touch of nastiness to these proceedings. Every second of each track is in your face, sometimes groovy, as you would come to expect by a band obsessed with early Entombed material. You could in fact be having a nice cigar with Churchill in a country estate when these boys come along and piss on the trees, sick, but an analogy oh so fitting.

Buzzsaw guitar work coupled with a low end growl from Phlegm give any lover of rotten death metal a chance to sacrifice further brain cells and head bang like a possessed priest. Invasion has a sound and presentation that sits rather comfortably with yours truly. Ok, so you wont find this release much different or unique to other “old school” bands, the sound is right, but it does not knock you for six as much as other releases so far this year in this genre, however, Invasion’s interesting lyrical content and promise of Armageddon in their recorded delivery gives you enough energy to throw up the horns and revel in this stinking corpses burial ground.
