Ah Falmouth in Cornwall, lovely place to visit, not too sure about living there which is what this lot apparently do. They also play one hell of a lot and have 150 gigs to their name and during now and end of October they have one truckload of miles more to cover, from Watford to Germany, Belgium, Holland and The Czech Republic no less. I would imagine their sets are short and brutal too as was this CD clocking in eight tracks in just over13 minutes.
This is abrasive and muggy punk rock, with chunky metallic riffs and yobbish lead vocals and gang shouts. ‘Railings’ sets the tone and impales you on its spikes, hard and fast and brutal. It’s a drunken mosh up that no doubt causes pit carnage, broken bones and spilled beer. Upping the ante there is a healthy oi bombast about ‘Veins’ and this sounds a bit like a modern Sham 69 and The Varukers joining forces to bottle the mods at a shitty seaside town. Guitar lines reminding me of Faster Bastard from the legendary Bomb Disneyland make their mark on E.S.T. but it’s kind of over just as you start to notice this. Some of these songs are a case of blink and you will miss them and I notice the word album is bandied about on the group’s website. Whilst I hardly think that and have classed it an EP here, it is available for a fiver (of cider) so no doubt you can choose the music or the drink next time you dip into the pockets of your bondage trousers.
The production here is good and probably actually better than the songs deserve and it all has a nice beefy clamour about it. So if you like your punk and hardcore with a modern sound but still retaining a crusty feel than this lot of foul-mouths from Falmouth should hit the mark.
