Artist: Raw In Sect
Title: Red Flows Promo 2010
Type: Promo EP
Label: Self Released
This Greek band has issued this promo 3-tracker ahead of their full album release (‘Red Flows’). Penned as being a technical death metal band in some sources, I was expecting ferocious hyper speed death metal. What you actually get is heavy thrash like the UK’s Seregon with a touch of death. ‘Wall of Greed’ entertains me and keeps the attention span, the drum sounds a little thin (the snare drum that is), the kick drum pounds away like a rumbling freight train with prowess and masterful accuracy. ‘Protect’ has some god awful harmonics like that infamous Machine Head sound and groove of their earlier times mixed again with some heavy vocal duties but nicely gaining more death metal riffing. Overall there is too much nu-metal groove for me on this track spoiling the otherwise fantastic head bashing tune. ‘Man Less’ starts out riffing like madmen, only hampered again by the poor snare sound. Until the vocals start that is, hmm, a little rar-rar jump-da-fuk-up. Not a bad tune, but not to my pallet. Raw In Sect clearly like the late 90’s/00’s bands and Slayer’s ‘God Hates Us All’ album and try to mix up some good riffs. The overall package is not what I would call technical death metal at all but a decent stab at heavy thrash on the fringes of death, but there are better bands out there if the truth be told, but still a decent listen.
