Think Grief, think Burning Witch, think Khanate, think Thorr’s Hammer, think Funeral Death Sludge Doom… and welcome to the festering putrid and feral world of Dublin depressives Wreck Of The Hesperus! Theirs is a sunless world, where everything is cast in miserable darkness, cloyingly claustrophobic, the stench of death and decay is overwhelming, there is no love, no hope, no release from torment and endless fear … just prolonged screamingly pain ridden death…hell sounds almost preferable in comparison.

The Irish trio are following an extreme musical path set by Primordial and Mourning Beloveth, (and that is not overlooking any of the excellent Pagan Folk metal bands from the Emerald Isle either) and look set to crush the opposition by sheer weight of grim pulverizing punishing power. Most funeral doom bands sound positively melodic in comparison to these hate filled behemoths. Listening full tilt is akin to being repeatedly punched in the head by enraged deities! Truly an epic release, although featuring only three songs, it clocks in at a very impressive 40 minutes! The songs just tear into you with dissonant, discordant cacophonic power, nightmarish twisted riffs, tortured achingly slothful rhythms crawling out of primeval oozes with almost purely primitive instinctive savagery, the vocals a bestial howl of agonised anguished rage. It is absolutely face ripping stuff, where moments of lulled silence and atmospheric chaotic ambience almost trick you into a false sense of relaxation…before the wall of barbaric sound hits you like a sonic blast…knocking you senseless yet again. The eerie saxophone ‘torturing’ found throughout brings to mind John Zorn at his most demented, and adds to the sheer evil feel that pervades through this wounded beast of an album.

Unrelentingly vicious, hatefully merciless, and shrieking against the light, Wreck Of The Hesperus has created an absolute Extreme Metal Magnum Opus. Without a shadow of doubt, this is THE most morose, baneful, ugly, stagnant, acidic album of 2011. Most horror film directors would benefit from listening to this savage barbaric ode to filth…it would make a blistering and vile soundtrack to any bloody nightmare movie…the audience would be scared shitless by the music alone!

“Light Rotting Out” comes beautifully packaged, In an A5 sized double card format, the quality of the material is of the highest calibre, and the cards within are lovingly created and designed with a total eye for excellence…beautiful stuff, you could NOT be disappointed in such a lavish creation. I cannot commend this album or this band enough to you. “Light Rotting Out” is a spectacular and devastating extreme metal release, and Wreck Of The Hesperus are going to be serious contenders for the extreme metal crown … make no mistake. I actually feel sullied and unusual after experiencing this…I need a shower… in sulphuric acid to be fully cleansed! This is a depraved and perverted release…so buy it!!!
