Artist: 7th Angel
Title: In Your Face
Type: Album
Label: HQ records

7th Angel, an act that hails from Slovenia, share a drummer and guitarist with One Out of Hell, who should have their demo reviewed here too. That’s about all they share. Having listened to the heavily Pantera influenced demo, I was more then looking forward to this CD. Well, we can all be wrong. This CD chugs off 10 tracks of 80’s Euro metal-light with barely any detectable enthusiasm. Every track plods along, with the vocalist, a bandana wearing screamer called Axl, sounding like a pub tribute act to The Scorpions. It would be far too simple to just pass it off as a post ironic throwback, but that was done, at least with more energy, by the now defunct The Darkness who 7th Angel have more then a passing resemblance to.

It may be the fact that I like my music heavier, but as well as the thrash and stoner gigs I go to, I do like putting on a wide range of music at home, normally old rock like The Doors, Led Zep, or Free, and even the prog rock of early Genesis and Yes. However, I can find no redeeming features in this album that would make me want to play it again. Even a quick perusal of their Myspace links to a cheap and cheesy video that could have been done by any number of hair bands in the early 90’s, bored looking models podium dancing whilst Axl screams in the foreground throwing metal horns.

I hate to be so negative, and I’ve no doubt the band had to go through a lot to get out their first album, especially singing in a foreign language. It’s an even bigger shame that the fruits of those labours resulted in such a lackluster album, especially compared to the power of One Out of Hell’s demo.
