West Midlands based rockers ‘Angel House’, since forming in 2004, have quite an impact when you first hear them. Since their inception, these three guys have been plugging away with their classic metal sounds, with a modern and personal variation of their influences, this is their debut album ‘World of Fire’.
Some aspects remind me of classic ‘Chariot’, ‘Dirty Deeds’ or ‘Redline’, mainly due to the vocal delivery being quite similar. There are also some ‘Blaze Bailey’ long O’s and high notes. The melodies and song structures are solid British metal, and you just cannot help tapping those toes from start to finish on this one.
From the opening track ‘Mask’, a tune of great heritage, to the title track ‘World On Fire’, like the bands website says they “play music that searches into your soul, that questions the freedom and rights of all our Brothers and Sisters of the World” – damn right!
There is the usual as expected slower number in the form of ‘Hush-A-Bye’, a strong vocal line, great guitar fills, and the song oozes emotion. The remainder of the album sits perfectly with the thought of cruising down a coastal road on your motorbike (or in the car for that matter!) on a summer day then meeting at the pub for a good drink in the sunshine. ‘Weapons of Self-Expression’, ‘Superstitious Woman’ (very much reminiscent of ‘Deep Purple’) and ‘Dying at your Door’ are other stand out tracks. This will stay in the CD player for a while.
All of the aspects are in the right place, a romping British metal album. I will be looking out for this band playing live, because I am sure they will be a fun and exhilarating live experience as this album is to listen too.
