One look at the “Tomb Of The Muilated” style artwork on the cover and you immediately know you’re in for pulverising aural assault. Cannibal Corpse is a fair reference point for Decomposed as they kick you in the gut with their down tuned body bashing brutal death metal. The vocals are immensely sickening, demonic and truly guttural, but extremely effective. The repetitive jack hammering of the opener “Unholy Pleasures”, however, has a colossal surprise as despite the brutality in the vein of Dying Fetus this band has an extra twist which will send many death metal heads scurrying for the bog to be sick. Decomposed have added almost power metal style guitar wankery to their bludgeoning onslaught. At first I cringed, then I grimaced, then I suddenly realised this actually bloody works. Whilst not in the class of say Bodom (yes I think they’re a power metal band), Stratovarius or any other band in this genre their widdling is sufficiently bold enough for it to fit the music without diluting the savagery.

“Butcher The Innocent” bulldozes you with Malevolent Creation style riffage, but more importantly it’s goddamn catchy as fuck. The drum work is sickeningly crushing as each bass drum thuds remorselessly, as it does throughout the album. “Disemboweled” is a little close to Dying Fetus’ “Killing On Adrenaline” album due to the similarity in the song structure and even the rhythm. Nonetheless the song pounds forth and eventually gives way to fret board histrionics which I have now definitely decided do work.

You have to remember that this is a very brutal piece of metal and makes the new Aborted album sound like some snotty nosed metalcore shite. “Dismembered and Molested” as sick as the title is, relentlessly stomps on your head and then giggles at your fate when the ridiculously over the top solo belts in and then fades back to that crushingly heavy drum sound. What I like about this more than anything else is the monstrously heavy production, whilst not exceptionally clear it is downright violent.
