Having seen the band perform recently I was suitably impressed with their brand of black metal. The band takes its name from the Second World War battle campaign between the German Reich and Russian army in Eastern Europe. This is a very short demo of what the band has released so far with songs written about the various incursions that took place from about 1941.

My tendency to relate many black riffs to the punk genre is here once again as the rolling tank division that starts “Unleash The Panzer Division” has a scything riff, matched by a battle drum feel. An emotional riff kicks in that sees the song slow down as the violent death throe style shrieks and screams are piercing. The drumming ability is good as the double bass kick can actually be heard in the mix. Production wise this is slightly atypical of the genre with some audible bass in the mix and a snare drum you can actually hear. “Battle Of Smolensk” is a fast and powerful track unleashing a nice double bass kick pushes the song forward right before the subtle time change announces a sudden blast. There is a good sense of dynamics as each song has a catchy melody to differentiate it from the rest. A tank blast signals the beginning of “Blood On Snow”, a newer track, with a highly catchy, yet vitriolic war-like riff. The songs modern approach of blasts and double bass kick forays are matched well. Being the longest song here, gives it plenty of time to develop into an epically driven anthem. This is highly impressive and hugely venomous black metal from this UK band.
