If you’re a devotee of epic doom metal then the release of a new Isole album is definitely something to get excited about. Needless to say Silent Ruins is a superlative exercise in the art form and will more than meet all the high expectations that inevitably await.
Perhaps more immediately impressive than its slow burning predecessor, Bliss Of Solitude, Isole’s fourth full length album is magnificent, majestic and melancholic from the first note to the last. ‘Forlorn’ captures perfectly that sense of vastness and far, wide horizons while ‘Peccatum,’ in contrast, shows Isole’s equal ability to create something intimate and beautiful.
The most potent weapon in Isole’s arsenal, beyond even the colossal riffs, are the tremendous vocals. They soar effortlessly above the monumentally heavy songs like the aforementioned ‘Forlorn’ and bleed pure emotion throughout the breathtaking ‘Soulscarred’, lifting Isole to a level far above so many of their peers and competitors.
Silent Ruins is definitive epic doom metal that’s good enough to tempt you to speak in terms of perfection. It’s so good I can’t even be bothered to moan about the voiceovers that mar this promotional copy. Quite, quite brilliant.
