Few bands emerge with something new to offer and Requiem Laus do. They’re style could be described as death metal but it’s melodic and has a dark and eerie edge. It’s full and meaningful. I believe there is a lot to this band and their music expresses it well.
Christ Above is the opening track, a well structured track to say the least. Starting with a melodic guitar line was a smart idea to keep the listener engaged and when everything else kicks in you can’t help but smile. It’s powerful and you can only guess Requiem Laus have taken a lesson or two from melodic death metallers Arch Enemy. As the track progresses you notice a lot of traits found in a typical Amon Amarth work. Continuous double kicking on the bass drum, slow growling vocals and twin guitar trem picking. This band gives you music with an edge, a darker edge.
Final Function is a very strong track, it’s slow and the drums are played very well to keep the listener keyed in. Its one of those tracks that takes you away to a lone desolate land and brings you back home at the end. In one opinion the best track on here. Influenced by Septic Flesh?
Requiem Laus have placed an interlude on here Maledictis, an acoustic track, well placed considering the next and final track Reflection Of God is the fastest song, the interlude gives it that little extra effectiveness. Twin guitars are exposed well on Reflection Of God a lot of harmonising chords going on there.
As far as production goes, crystal clear, maybe the cymbals and hats could be a little louder but a great production, it sounds amazing.
Overall a great promo and a band I will most certainly be adding to my collection. Talented musicians and the drummer shows exceptional technical ability. Fellow drummers could do well to pick up a few notes. I recommend checking this band out.
