Follow this advice and ye shall lay a devastating defeat upon your opponent!
No sooner than I have set sail I find myself up against a mighty powerhouse of sound, and I am thrown head first into the adventure. A volley of riffs as sharp as spearheads charge at me as speeding drums hurtle along like a knight riding on into battle. The majestic drum roll on ‘Metal Legacy’ brings a regal feel into the mix, as it breaks through the sound of steel, while a Manowar style march comes into play on ‘The Holy Cross’ until the elements are knocked down one by one, leaving us with a faint layer of sound which holds up a chanted recital of the Lords Prayer, which is bellowed out with force.
The clean guitar tones that introduce ‘Lion of the Northe’ are quickly taken over by a barrage of galloping riffage and powerful drumming that creates a sound that has me thinking of Running Wild, while a Joacim Cans style vocal line climbs up in the chorus. A heroic guitar solo blows in to rescue us from a marching attach of drums on ‘Iron Gods’, as a set of speeding guitars come galloping into the fore.
Okay, this is nothing we haven’t heard before and at certain points I am convinced I’m listening to Hammerfall but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. If what you’re after is a piece of no-nonsense power metal, with guitars sharp enough to cut through armour, drums fast enough to outrun your stealthiest combatant and the voice of a true warrior then your quest ends right here with Stormwarrior. Check it out.
