Formed just over a year ago this UK band were “brought together with their common liking for Thrash and all things Metal”. Funnily enough the first thing I would have thought of with a band name like ‘System Corrupt’ was that they were an Anarcho punk mob, also on listening to singer Jo Carley’s clean tones that is also the sort of thing that I am reminded of with bands such as Lost Cherrees, Hagar The Womb and Rubella Ballet springing to mind, something which their MySpace page acknowledges.
Musically the three tracks here do have a metallic twang to them and ‘When It All Comes Down’ has a thrashy mindset. However when the vocals join in I kind of put this thought aside as this really does have a crust-laden “swig a can of Special Brew and pogo” feel about it too and I can quite easily see this lot appealing to both a metal and punk contingent. There are however guitar solos and a fluidity going on here that perhaps you would not find musically in a punk anthem and this is a well structured thought out number. ‘Eye Of The Storm’ buzzes away and has a guitar sound not so much like a swarm of angry wasps but a Galaxian attack and last number ‘Poison’ bounces in with an almost hardcore like drum roll before it settles down and lets the vocals almost beseechingly join in. Backing them up are more harmonious guitar solos and some backing male vocal chants completing the picture.
These three numbers are apparently a small glimpse of things to come and show a lot of promise, they are certainly catchy and will be going round in the head long after they are listened to and I will be interested in seeing where System Corrupt go from here. Apparently they are looking for a second guitarist too, which can only bolster some already good ideas. Check out the songs by clicking on the link below.
