This one man band from Mexico (Jacodo Cordova) unleashes his first full length album upon the world, hailed as “skullcrushing extreme metal that has an 80’s thrash injection”, this statement has me interested already. Following 10 years of playing in relatively unknown bands like ‘Antiqua’ and ‘Project Firestart’, Jacobo decided that a new path of blood and destruction was required. It would be fair to say that fans of early (pre-Angela) ‘Arch Enemy’, ‘Strapping Young Lad’ and current ‘Zimmer’s Hole’ would enjoy this disc.
It’s all very extreme thrash with melodic death metal intertwined in the mix. From the opening album track ‘Ticket to Hell’, there are a few ‘Strapping Young Lad’ moments, especially in the drum sound. Some aspects of this go industrial, however, the sheer heaviness keeps this thoroughly in the metal camp.
The vocals are raw and aggressive whilst sounding like Chris Astley of ‘Xentrix’ in places, the tunes themselves are very infectious. The title track of the album goes down the melodic death metal route as does ‘We March’. Thundering rhythms and excellent arrangements are something of a no-brainer for Jacodo, they flow naturally in abundance.
The production quality is top notch, it cannot be said that there is a weak mix. The drum and guitar sound is particularly beefed up. There is not much left to say, there are certainly no filler tracks on this disc!
It is always difficult to see where these one-man projects will go, as live appearances could be limited. However, it’s a thoroughly well rounded CD that most fans of metal would find enjoyable.
