The end of the year is always manic with shows and come January everything goes dead quiet and we all get restless desperate for a live music fix. That makes it all the more special that NOLA heavyweights Crowbar after years of absence in the UK have picked January to pop over and give us a couple of rare shows.
1989. That's over 20 long years ago. Countless memories. Some still vivid, most just a blur. For me it was knocking myself out at the LA2 stage-diving to them and managing to recover just before At The Gates played their last ever show (well it was for a number of years.) The one constant thing has been their focus and desire. Fuelled by the down-tuned sludge of the Melvins and the over-the-top aggression of Peter Steele's Carnivore, the band set out to create their own beast and Crowbar was born. Their sound was labelled Doom-Core by the European press shortly after the debut release of Obedience Thru Suffering. Since then, Crowbar have released 8 full length CDs, the second selling over 100,000 units worldwide. Anyone who knows Crowbar is familiar with the numerous label and line-up changes over the years. In terms of musicianship, loyalty and friendship, the bands current lineup is the strongest to date. Period.
