Artist: Scound
Title: At The Point Of Death
Type: MCD
Label: Crystal Productions
Yet another CD with a boring intro that is totally unnecessary and serves little to set the scene for the music. This Czech Republic outfit is about three to four years behind the rest of the modern metalcore scene as these guys play well enough but are devoid of anything that will appeal to anyone except the most narrow-minded teenage metalcore junkie who thinks this is the only type of music out there.
Beginning with “Liar” the chug factor dominates from the off as do the simple harmony guitar sections which are played confidently enough and sit firmly amongst the dense riffs. There’s the odd moment of bravery such as the melodic death metal break towards the end of the track. This is followed by the title track which is tepid and just too darn safe for this reviewers seasoned lug holes. In its favour there are no clean vocals which is a relief, or maybe they just didn’t realise they were supposed to do that to be true metalcore. Who knows! “Interlude” is nothing that the title suggests and is generic metalcore bounce and chug with plenty of breakdowns that are used at the right point as this MCD moves into the faster “In The Hands Of God” which boasts some longer leads and decent harmonies. It is hard to see how this second release is ever going to achieve acclaim beyond even their own locality such is its predictability as the glut of acts purveying this style is probably better than these overall despite the fact that the guys can play.
