There must be some sort of unwritten rule concerning working ethos on Al Jourgensen’s 13th Planet Records. First they release the album, then they remix it and then they release it again. Well it seems to be the way they do things as practically everything that has come out on the label has had that treatment. Just last week I picked up the Last Dubber and Power Of The Damn Mixxxer by Ministry and Prong from a well known auction website so I have been kind of hearing a lot of these albums of late. So whilst you eagerly await for the forthcoming double remix album for Morbid Angel’s Illud Divinum Insanus, which I am sure you are all looking forward to next year (it has a Laibach mix so I am), how about getting reacquainted to RevCo Got Cock album all over again?
The words “surplus to requirements” are on the tip of the tongue once this gets going. As before the album takes the original tracks in order and gives them a tweak or two. Tweak is definitely the order of the day; perhaps to the nipples as far as Trojan Horse (I cannot be bothered to cut and paste the mixxx titles after the songs) is concerned, it has a riff grinding up and down on you thrusting its pelvis in your face and smothering you in obligatory orgasmic sounds groaning away in the background. Yep very tongue in cheek and going for shock rock immaturity. One could say that the Cocks have been somewhat half cocked since their last great album Linger Ficken Good 1996. Indeed the 13 year break between that and ‘Cocked And Loaded’ said a lot (to many that was simply QUIT). Al was meant to pack it all in anyway but the Cocks have never been busier, Buck Satan and the 666 Shooters have just shot their load and their dogs C&W style and Ministry are back faster than most bands get around to telling us they have split up.
This is a lazy album make no mistake. Songs at times sound cheaply stripped down rather than pumped up and I cannot see this selling by the truckload let alone creating any dance floor smashes. It’s an album for completists really and those that were amused by songs like Filthy Senoritas and Me So Horny the first time around (I admit to sniggering a little). Cries of “buy this fucking record” say it all; fools at money and all that and who really is the last sucker? That aside whilst I would not rush out and buy this I cannot help by being more than willing to give it a few plays as by now the original songs have done the job and been ingrained on me like cheap porn shots from a favourite dirty mag and it’s always interesting seeing them given new positions with the same cast a bit later isn’t it? Piss Army may extract the urine with clattering D&B beats and techno twiddles but its still got the power behind it and enough balls to have you bouncing up and down (and I appreciate how wrong that sounds).
I’m not entirely sure what the status of the band is at present. No websites really have any details and according to Wiki Bradford, Quirin and Worbeck have all left in 2010 no doubt after completing Got Cock. Perhaps that’s for the best as for me the group were always at their best prior to hiatus. If this is the final statement though it’s a pretty poor one and I will wait till I see it dead cheap on that auction site before completing my collection and picking it up.
