Artist: Dawn Of Demise
Title: A Force Unstoppable
Type: Album
Label: Deep Send

Harking back to the death metal of yesteryear, when musical competence and crushing rhythms were as important as any shock value, Dawn of Demise’s second album, ‘A Force Unstoppable’, lives up to its name. Full-bodied, chugging riffs, alongside anvil-heavy drums are the order of the day from these Danes, with some wonderfully catchy hooks which would appeal to anyone who insists on liking ‘old’ Cannibal Corpse or Suffocation.

Scott Jensen’s brutal grunts are a powerful addition to the sound, but the ferocity never gets so savage to be described as ‘too much’. Quite the opposite in fact, as this album, like some of the best out there, is brimming with a sense of accessibility. There are some fairly thrashy moments in tracks such as ‘Ridden With Disgust’ (you can even sense the Cannibal Corpse influence in the song titles), whilst one is reminded of the likes of Pantera in ‘Degrading The Worthless’ with its array of catchy downtuned riffs, each of which sounds like it tries to outdo the last in energy and moshpit-inducing violence. Another boon is the quality of the guitar solos from Martin Sorensen and Thomas Egede, which sweep over the ordered chaos and melt your face in a melodic flurry. Technically, this album is perfectly produced and played, and this comes through obviously at times, such as in the complexity of ‘Among The Tortured’, but the true beauty of this beast is in the simplicity of the crunchy, often slamming riffs, underlain by the pounding drums of Kim Jensen.

All in all, this is a powerful listen, and surely is an unstoppable force. It probably entered the scene a few years too late to qualify for classic status, but nevertheless it is a shining example of how brutality should be executed.
