Helsinki rockers The Milestones are now on album number three; a hot tip in the media, ‘Devil In Me’ gives the listener some good old fashion hard rock the way classic bands of the 1970’s released. Riddled with heritage, vocalist Olavi Tikka comes across as a classic British rock singer with the snarl of some Bon Scott numbers. ‘Queen to Me’ starts the album off perfectly, an uplifting rebel-rousing fast paced, hard rock number. The early era of AC/DC coupled with the blues harmony of early Whitesnake and a little Black Crowes gives this album a great deal of respect. ‘Rage Against the Limits’ is such a cracking tune, the flow is stemmed by some softer moments but truly the mark of good musicians as it intertwines itself around the listener’s eardrums and encapsulates one and all. Slow things down with a charming ballad called ‘So Alive Today’ and it really gives the listener a southern acoustic blues workout, of the kind Cinderella did on Heartbreak Station or the music of Free in the 1970’s, this will hit the mark, even Bon Jovi fans will get this one, old and new. ‘Rattlin’ Blues’ even with its weird ooo’s is a harmonica driven blues out, such that the world truly is lacking in the modern music scene.

The Milestones are a band I would expect to read about in Classic Rock; this is a quality release that will appease the much-missed classic hard rock genre. Bands try and fail to recapture this sound, but in the case of The Milestones, this is no couch potato. This album has the soulful ballads; uplifting anthems with simple quality musicianship that flows with effortless ease, ripping solos and accomplished arrangements making this a hidden gem.
