You’ve heard the saying ‘Polish a turd,’ right? Well I imagine there’s plenty lying in whatever sewer Demon Metal was recorded in; this is pure necro-thrashing filth of the highest order and polished is a word I’d stay well clear of when describing it. There must be something in the water in Chile and that whole SA continent for there is some downright nasty shit being expelled from its fetid bowels which I guess Sarcofago has much to answer for.

This EP clocks in at 17 minutes and follows on from their full-length debut Cult Of Destruction released in 2008. As you’ve undoubtedly gathered, this is about as raw and uncompromising as it gets and if you value high and glossy production this probably isn’t for you. ‘Detonate’ comes bombing straight in sending shrapnel flying in all directions creating that feeling of being amidst total chaos. There is certainly a war-harbouring vibe to this especially as ‘Victory of the Legions of the Damned’ comes blazing in following a Middle Earthian march into battle always fighting on the side of Sauron. This comes in nice and slow with heavy, driving guitars that soon quicken their pace and let rip with a scything attack while the vocals of Torrid sound truly demonic. As the legions march on things fall into a furious Darkthronian swagger that sounds fucking sick (very descriptive I know!)

A number of influences spring to mind on hearing this; Sodom and Possessed are among the most obvious and anyone who enjoys their thrash crushed down with plenty of blackness and death will eat this right up. ‘March To The Temple Of Doom’ is another excellent track that shows not a shred of mercy and the riffs come out thick and fast with an unclean sharpness to them; think hostile rusty old barbed wire fencing with chunks of flesh hanging off it as opposed to a sharp, shiny new pair of scissors and you’re half way there. The drumming clatters away in the background bluntly pounding away as though trying to keep up, while other times furiously bashing away at the cymbals and pushing their way higher into the mix.

‘Enthrone the God of Blasphemy’ is a short blast of mayhem that takes a real swipe for the throat and is a good one to just bang your head to. The track is introduced with a hellish ‘Eeeeuuggggh’ and the vocals are as rough as the rest of the music with a just-about-distinguishable subterranean rasp. I think by now I’ve given an accurate picture of what you can expect from this EP; if you’re after some raw Chilean black thrash then you could do far worse than to pick this one up.
