Artist: Genitorturers>br> Title: Blackheart Revolution
Type: Album
Label: Season of Mist

First thing’s first - this band make sexy music… dirty, bump and grind Industrial Rock. And who doesn’t love a little PVC on PVC dance floor action? ‘Blackheart Revolution’, the band’s fourth full-length in nineteen years, is more of what the band do best - pornographic bass-lines, grinding guitars, mind-bending electronics and lyrics that could make Mary Whitehouse turn in her grave.

The band are of that school of American Industrial rock that spawned icons such as Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie (Gen can do a pretty good impersonation of Rob as well, just listen to ‘Devil in a Bottle’), as well as crap bands like Powerman 5000 and Orgy so it will be interesting to see which way the band go with this one. I doubt that under David “Evil D” Vincent’s watchful eye the band will plummet to the depths of Powerman 5000’s ‘When Worlds Collide’ though.

From the get go Gen and her fellow debauchers deliver - ‘Revolution’ is a sexy air fisting anthem that gets the toes tapping instantly. ‘Kabangin’ All Night’ has a great Adam and the Ants drum and bass guitar combination that drives the song through the dirty lyrics of the verse and into the ‘chant-a-long’ chorus. ‘Devil in a Bottle’ as I mentioned before features Gen doing a great Rob Zombie on Oestrogen impression, and the track is just as catchy as a cut from one of Rob’s own albums. ‘Louder’ is a big sing-a-long track that sounds like some of the recent stomping Motley Crue tracks of recent years. ‘Falling Stars’ at first impression is a little non-descript, but on a second listen it grows into a great catchy tune, but one that may take a few listens to fully appreciate. ‘Take It’ is a classic sounding Genitorturers track - all bump and grind with a big chorus and a great riff. ‘Confessions of a Blackheart’ is easily the best track on the album - the electronics are filthy, the lyrics are filthy, the chorus is memorable, and the whole thing is just really well executed. ‘Cum Junkie’ continues the heavy electronics to great effect for a driving dance floor orientated track to send out to the Goth clubs. The penultimate track is the subdued and rockier ‘Vampire Lover’ that goes back to straight up rock and sing-a-long feel of ‘Falling Stars’. The spectacle ends with ‘Tell Me’, a nice fast punk track that strips the sound of the band back from the pornographic monster of ‘Confessions..’ to a whole new beast.

Mission accomplished. The Genitorturers will no doubt once again become the soundtrack to many post-Goth club lovemaking sessions across the world. With hip thrusting bass-lines and Gen growling in your ear it would be tough for them to not make it into your bedroom.
