Inner Axis have been together since 2008, but seemingly this (Into The Storm) is their only release to date, which makes me wonder why and what they have been doing in the two years since they formed - creating Heavy metal history? We shall certainly see.
A tinny drum intro to the first track ‘Riders of the Mist’ followed by a technical guitar riff. When the vocals came in I was a little unimpressed; dull and droney until the group vocals came in to make it sound better. I could honestly say I’ve heard vocals like this at my local pub listening to old pissheads on the karaoke, because I guess every guy thinks he’s got a voice like Bruce Dickinson when drunk. I can’t fault the guitar work though, especially the solo.
‘Hellbenders’ pops in with a catchy guitar riff and the vocals on this although still a bit bland, are a little better on this track, added to this is another awesome solo.
Having been together for a good few years I’d expect the vocals to be a little more in your face but having listened to the first two tracks up to now, I have to say I’m quite bored, Nevertheless the third track ‘Killing Lullaby’ sounds exactly like the first two, so I skipped to the next. ‘Soultaker’ starts with a promising battle metal galloping feel to it, and the vocals, yes, nailed it on this one, feels like he’s actually making an effort. The chorus is catchy as hell and I learnt the words listening to it just the once. They should have put this track first so the listener would be interested from the start.
The rest of the album is pretty much the same, I won’t go into detail as I’d be repeating myself so a few words to sum it up; boring, droney, bland...... I shant go on.
Well... What can I say about this album that I haven’t mentioned above? Production work pretty good, guitars quite impressive, and I guess that’s it?
I suggest they get their asses back into writing mode and try again in another two years and do it right this time!
