“JAKA” for a few years now, have provided much entertainment for the Grindcore aficionado. It is sad to hear that this will be their final release, but in short, what a way to go. I have often associated their brand of grind as a little bit eccentric, a little spazzy, mainly due to some weird and unique vocal sounds. But have no fear, these still exist, but the overall feel of this release is maturity and a touch of class. There are more grooves, and death metal riffs mixed with the grind. Slowing down somewhat in places and managing to extend the tracks lengths to more than a few seconds really works in this bands favour. One of their more recent releases was an EP with 54 tracks; now we have an album with a tiny (by comparison) 18 tracks in content. The guitar tone, the feel, the atmosphere, even if you cannot understand the German lyrical content, this is rather a good listen. Out of the English versed tracks, ‘Cruise Missile’ (listen to the pronunciation of missile!) and ‘Reset’ really hit the mark. ‘Statuspanik’ is pretty mush an epic song based on Jaka’s usual output at nearly 4 minutes long, but you do not get bored for one instance.

If you’re not pumped after listening to this album then you’re in dire straits and you need to call the emergency services rather quickly. They never have been the most amazing grindcore band but what they have to give they do very well and this release further solidifies their status in the industry. Rounding their career off with a mature, energetic yet more thoughtful release, JAKA leave you wanting more; let’s just see if this really is the end? But in the meantime enjoy their “de-union” album.
