Artist: Lvcifyre
Title: The Calling Depths
Type: Album
Label: Blood Harvest

Yet to make their live debut, Lvcifyre are quickly becoming one of the most essential new bands from England’s capital. Having released their debut 7” in 2009 entitled Dying Light ov God, they assaulted an unsuspecting scene from out of the blue with crushing death metal. Back then known simply as the ‘new project’ of ex-Adorior guitarists T.Kaos and Slutsodomizer, also featuring The One (of Razor of Occam/Macabre Omen/Scythian) and S. Bonewhipper– only Kaos remains from the original line-up.

So 2011 brought us the anticipated debut album ‘The Callings Depths’ and rehearsals for live rituals have already begun, with Necrosadist reinforcements Menthor (drums) and Dictator (guitars) joining the fold, hell bent to bring true death to all.

Introductions aside, what we have here is death metal with blackened elements and a love for Morbid Angel and Immolation (with that Adorior touch) played by experienced veterans, making it all sound very mature for a debut. Don’t get me wrong, it’s filthy and brutal, but also multi-layered as dark melodies guide along the unholy evilness, creating a sinister claustrophobic atmosphere that aims to possess all those poor souls who let it get too close. What tops it all off is the feeling of a genuine and true product – there’s no bullshit pretentiousness here. It’s a celebration rather than a characterless worship or what was created by the gods. The sound is also of the old school, but whilst I would like to call the production flawless, that it ain’t. The reoccurring feeling that essential bits of brilliance are missed as the crisp high-end guitars grind away at terminal velocity is somewhat frustrating. In the end it’s not all bad though as this is a record that really stands for itself and none of its slight flaws matter in the end

So London-dwellers beware! Lvcifyre lives next door and could come and rip your face off at night as you’re dreaming of what would happen if the two Klitschkos fought each other. Odds are ‘The Calling Depths’ is at least as crushing as such encounter of giants.
