Miscondücters seem to have a fair bit of critical respect; their MySpace has quotes of approval from the likes of Mike Browning and the almighty bearded Paul Speckmen. Live the group have also supported Discharge, Broken Bones and English Dogs (although the amount of time these bands have been going, who hasn’t). So with this in mind one would be right in assuming that they are likely to play a mix of metal and punk, which indeed along with rock influences they do.

I would like to echo the praise given to them from distinguished quarters but alas am not able to do so. Having given this a fair few spins to attempt to get into it, I find it at best demo fodder designed to be played only in the shittiest watering hole where everyone is simply too pissed to give a shit what they are listening to. Harsh perhaps, but honest.

‘Ultimate Pain’ has lacklustre and generic riffs of the simple muggy punk variety and a drummer going through the motions. It sounds tired and I quickly discover that singer Denfire has an irritating voice that lacks depth, emotion and simply grates on the nerves. ‘Braindead’ with lyrics like ‘On your knees, saying cheese,’ is hardly an improvement in fact it lives up to its name, offering a discordant and annoying guitar lead as the only thing to really stand out from the monotony of the whining nasal vocals. ‘Deceived’ tries to up the pace and succeeds and this strikes as the most consistent number, at least the band have woken up a bit. There is even a riff that sounds like it has escaped from the Buzzcocks back catalogue, which can also be read as ‘yes we heard all this 30 years ago and it wasn’t particularly great then.’ Up in the mix the vocals on last number ‘Stagnant’ are particularly off key and horrid and mangled melody never gels with the constant thwack, thwack of the drummer sounding like a bored woodpecker not sure why it’s attacking a tree but doing so as it doesn’t know any better.

I looked for positive things to say here and wanted to add encouraging words saying things like ‘room for improvement in the future’ but there really is nothing. Although I actually really do not like putting down bands in the early stages of their career the only honest words of advice I could provide are simply ‘give up.’
