With “iron” featuring heavily in the band name and album title from these Germans, take a wild guess on their musical style? Throughout this strong release there is homage to Priest, but especially to Halford’s solo material as well as some elements of fellow countrymen Grave Digger and then there is Seven Witches to contend with. So it’s all heavy metal right? Damn right! This release is full of galloping rhythms and the classic twin guitar attack, then you take the stellar vocal performance of Denis Brosowski and you have the traditional metal fans wet dream. Poignant commentary includes ‘Imagine a better World’ and ‘War in the Streets’, but then the rebel rousing anthem-like touches feature in such tunes as ‘Iron Fate’ and ‘Killer Instinct’. Things get emotive during ‘Painful Sorrow’, a strong ballad, sometimes vocally reminding me of Bruce Dickinson’s Balls to Picasso opus (‘Tears of the Dragon’).
German Heavy Metal has always stayed true to form and to the original blueprint set down by many a British band over the years, Iron Fate has this sound nailed in abundance, but I would imagine that subsequent releases will be difficult to produce, they appear to have put everything into this debut release, but we shall wait and see on that one and hopefully I will be proven wrong. There is talent, there is class, this is pure heavy metal no doubt about it and a release that is worthy of your hard earned cash.
