With most metal labels clamouring for the next best thing in deathcore Molotov Solution have found their way onto Metal Blades roster so it must be worth a listen or two. Right?
Yeah of course they’re worth a listen or two as ‘Warlords’ slams the very crap out of you from the off. Combining breakneck snare work and nasty tangential riffing seems effortless to this band. The vocals are typical for the scene with alternating gut wrenching gurgles and razor blade gargling screams in equal quantities. The bands schizophrenic use of blasts and pace drops into slamming breakdowns is impressive. The catchy start to ‘Rule By Secrecy’ has a stop start riff typical of the scene but complimented by the super heavy rhythm section which is as equally technical as the riff infected guitarists.
‘Only The Dead’ is devastatingly heavy utilising the slam riff maybe a little too often but is no less catchy for it and comparable to a band like Ingested. That comparison continues on ‘Corpus Imperium’ which begins in a techcore style and slightly slower pace until the slam riff nuts you square between the eyes and the bass kicks wallop the side of your head. The band certainly likes to match the bass kicks with the riffs and this continues into the title track and beyond as ‘Enslaved’ has an almost mechanized beat which raised my eyebrows a touch until the more traditional death metal battering comes in reminding me of Despised Icon.
I enjoyed ‘Awakening’ due to its more conventional death metal approach though the slam riff is never too far away as ‘Living Proof’ gives you a good ol’ fashioned kick in the nuts as each slam riff is the proverbial size 12 hob nail boot going in each time. The album closes with a far more experimental track spanning about seven minutes and beginning very mildly. The build up is good as the double bass rises before cutting back to the mild beginning. The inevitable blast hits familiar territory and it is here that a Swedish element can be noticed prior to the pace dropping yet again. Certainly different, the song changes tack with some strummed guitar, cymbals and a gentle drum roll that borders Cult Of Luna with a demonic voice. As heavy as it gets, Molotov Solution certainly has the balls and playing ability to match any of deathcore’s established artists and is definitely worth investigating if slam is your thing.
