I can honestly say that Hacavitz purveyed a rabid demonstration of ferocious blackened death metal on their first two releases and the opening track on their third album, “To Meet Again”, is a true slice and dice tune; the speed is barbaric and the production cuts a razor like incision across your face with no regrets as the black riffing is as violent as it gets. Categorising this album is difficult due to the way every song moves tangentially from one genre to another with flawless savage finesse. “Ye Patani Xojtocomol” has a death thrash-like sound to the riffs even though the snare blast is absolutely relentless in a way that black metal delivers. There is a totally cool speed metal riff in this song which beggars belief as the double bass is a complete blur.
“Towards Black Pest” returns the album to black riffing hinting once more at the thrash attributes a band like Nifelheim would be comfortable with. Frenetic sits snugly in this bands ethos as they manage to string together seemingly random riffs from various genres into one venomous track after another. Black thrash also sits proudly on their denims as the battering pace gives a song like “Most Unclean” a war metal feel like Impiety or Revenge though with more melody. “Cahuitl Tlalticpac” begins much slower initially and offers a temporary respite from the blistering aural onslaught. The song switches direction by upping the double bass kick with an excellent riff change as the song gathers pace to slowly pulverise the living daylights out of you.
Every song has a backdrop of guitar inflections which add melody and excellent atmosphere to the songs in an intimidating fashion which will pass you by if you’re too focused on the hyper speed activity going on. Some Krisiun like bludgeoning appears on “Angstcraftwerk” as the blasting double bass keeps it catchy yet hugely devastating. There are many underground acts I could mention that this has similarities to such as Destroyer 666 on “Sulphur Winds”, a track I should dedicate to my mates arse. The album closes with a song that is probably the fastest and most savage of all, “Gotajtzin Miqui” as again the war metal annihilation makes this whole album a ferocious and sadistic aural bombardment.
