If you’re a fan of this band, then you kind of know what you are going to get. There exists mind twisting, doom heavy monsters, and that is just the music. Still tripping the light fantastic, Ramesses shall be pushing your bones and your soul will beg for bodily release. What else did you expect on their second full-length release.
Psychedelic doom has a special place in every fan’s mind; you can simply sit back and relax or go nuts of you really want too, but a lazy afternoon surrounded by a haze of smoke is defiantly the way to go for this release. The opening dual vocal attack on ‘Terrasaw’ adds depth; atmosphere and any bowl obstructions will be released when the bass gets going. Sounds horrid? One dimensional doom is not this band’s forte, there are twists and turns along the way and a loose jamming mode is oh so prevalent, until a black metal moment (when they demand an audience with “his satanic majesty”) in ‘Black Hash Mass’, things do ease down, it was only a momentary lapse on concentration, but what an affect this variation has on the tune, its breaks things up and takes you furthermore down the downtrodden path, you almost wanted it to do this. The album makes you believe the drugs do work; there is an ambience, an atmosphere about this music.
Summer solstice is approaching, and it is fitting that this album is officially released on this date, although it has already been made available through the label. ‘Take the Curse’ furthermore solidifies Ramesses as a band to contend with and a band that will sort the men from the boys, with tales of witchcraft, tales of yore, and obviously some destruction and death. Whilst I did expect a more punishing production, ‘Take the Curse’ will hearten any fan of this genres appetite, this is a monolithic release.
