Kansas Techie Death Metallers Origin, have been around since 1997, originally just a couple of guys mucking about having jamming sessions then creating after a year or so Origin! In 1998 they scored a slot to support Death metallers Suffocation, which led to the band making a 4 track demo ‘A Coming Into Existence’ which shortly after saw them securing a nice little spot on the Death Across America Tour along with the likes of Nile and Cryptopsy. Releasing their debut album ‘Origin’ in 2000 led to many tours with well known death metal bands across America. In 2002 the second album ‘Informis Infinitas Inhumanitas’ was released and the bands line-up changed for the umpteenth time, not letting it get the better of them, they got back up and shot a music video ‘Portal’. Echoes of Decimation’ their third release came out in 2005 with raving reviews, then in 2008 Antithesis was released with that came a music video which premiered on MTV’s Headbangers Ball. Now on their fifth album release with ‘Entity’ and still no sign of packing the job in yet....
Having a crappy Windows media to play music through, it took me a while to get the album ‘Entity’ playing, but literally jumping out of my skin (I left the volume on loud) came the first track ‘Expulsion of Fury’. The brutal guitar riffs all over the show and the insane drumming blew me away. The vocals more evil that an after curry toilet session and especially loving just after the middle section, the little solo... fantastic! ‘Purgatory’ belts out some facemelting, dirty riffs then the drum rolls kick in, practically made for windmilling, then the insane brutality starts, Throw your beer in the air, the pits gonna start!.
‘Conceiving Death’ doesn’t even give you a breather, carrying on as if it’s the same track, while the intro to ‘Swarm’ actually does sound like a swarm of wasps. The vocals in this are mixed with death and black metal and sounds a treat. ‘Saliga’ offers some deep, crunchy riffs in the middle section, while ‘The Descent’ is a superb yet spooky instrumental piece.
Another belter is ‘Committed’ which is probably my fave off the album, Psychotic riffs and again with the mixed vocals of death and black, it’s just a track you’re gonna get up on the floor and start pushing around all the whiney emos. ‘Banishing Illusion’ has such a kick-ass intro riff fingering up and down the fret board while ‘Consequences of solution’ is a track to get your fist pumping in the air, the guitar effects on this one adds that little bit more magic to an already explosive track.
Lastly ‘Evolution of extinction’ presents a fierce end to a wicked album with yet more riffs and drumming proving again an album to get wasted and rock out to.
This is the first time listening to Origin, but friends had told me to give them a go. I’m about as impressed as I was the first time I heard Daath! Utterly brilliant and blast beats a plenty! Go out and buy it when you get a chance!
