Artist: Inferno
Title: Pompa Magna
Type: Album

I love Rome. There is no better feeling than waking up and letting the warm morning light get into the bedroom and lighten up the shadows. Meow. Italy has a great history of progressive, interesting music (with my favourite, long-time-gone Black Jester and "Divine comedy" epoch). Inferno, this sweet sci-fi grind'n'roll made my day, reminding me about all the best Italy has and I am not talking spaghetti.

This is a fine piece of modern, electronic grindcore. A wall-of-sound, pumping and draining the listener's brain - such music is always good when its morning and you just want to enjoy your cup of espresso on your way to work. Great accompaniment to coffee; it's going to wake you up, hell yeah. Just don't fall on your way, this shit will make you jump, it's so energetic.

Naturally, I hear resemblance to Genghis Tron - how couldn't I? After all, ‘Board Up The House’ is like opus magnum, the best piece of whatever-core ever written (so far :). ‘Pompa Magna" isn't as complex; it's less twisted, and it does not fall into this unusual pit of madness and desperation, it's also more optimistic, somehow. I can hear the warm Italian mornings mentioned earlier, I can feel the sun on my skin. Yes, I know it sounds weird.

Still, it is very dynamic and uplifting. Good samples, nice keyboards, fast, obsessive drumming and harsh, yelled out vocals. Typical of the genre perhaps but still fresh and nice. Well-produced, too, so don't worry about your ears. Oh, and the entire CD is very well made, indeed. I know that it's stupid to judge the book by its cover, but in this case I knew that it's going to be good. Someone has put a lot of work and thinking into this, and it works. See for yourself.

All right, time for lunch. Time for pizza. I'll try not to choke, listening to Inferno again. It's their third album, and I am sure the forth one will be even better.
