Artist: Disarm Goliath
Title: Raining Steel
Type: EP
Label: Self-Released
West Midlands traditional metallers Disarm Goliath have had a loyal following over the years, even though this is the first time I have heard of them. USA shows behind them and a well-received vinyl release all make up a clichéd traditional British heavy metal band. Musically, this new EP plays well. New vocalist Steve ‘ball busting’ Bell reminds me of Eric Adams on the ‘Hail to England’ album (err from Manowar if you don’t know!). Musically you cannot go wrong with the 3 tracks on offer, ‘Who Rules the Night’ stands out most, but there is still the heavy pumping steel featured on ‘Two Worlds’. The production does tend to lend itself to the demo pile, sometimes the vocals overpower the music, but then all is forgiven really when you have a relatively unknown band performing classic British metal for the modern generation, and it is done so well.
This band would suit any Conquest of Steel, Stuka Squadron or Crowning Glory fan. Hopefully a good sign of future releases to come. If they play live near me, I will definitely check them out; one for you lot too if you like this genre.
