Echoes Fall are from Ipswich. Tractor Metal? The picture of them on the sleeve of this EP suggests that they are Punk Hardcore and they have “attitude”. “Ignite the Fury” is in fact a piece of Modern Metalcore.
I couldn’t see the point of the doomy intro on this 15 minute work. There’s no time to waste. The title track follows. It builds up in a Metal/Hardcore way, challenges us with a disharmonic interlude but it’s a bit of a dead end. The return to a punchier fast-paced Melodic Death chant is welcome. There plenty of fury and anger, the lads shout and scream at us but it doesn’t seem enough. I tried to get into the mood, but I’ve heard this a hundred times. This led into “The Wraith”. Again, it’s modern and energetic. After a few listens I realised that “The Wraith” was supposed to be knocking me out with its imperious bombast and violent power. It wasn’t. I wasn’t jumping out of my chair. It’s got nice development but I can’t imagine the band being interested in it being “nice”. And so it is with “Confessions of a Self-Righteous Man”. As before the riff is hooky. This track is more Hardcore-orientated. There’s plenty of aggression as usual, and yet the track is thoughtful in the way that it develops. This should interest but frankly it’s not particularly interesting and it’s very clichéd. The lack of excitement may well be due to the fact that the album is self-released and the band is on a tight budget, so credit to the band for releasing it all, but even so it’s not innovative or overpowering in its concept.
I’m sure Echoes Fall are great for a lively night out if you’re not too bothered about originality. “Ignite the Fury” didn’t excite me in its recorded form. Lacks personality.
