Artist: Eversin
Title: Divina Distopia
Type: Album
Label: My Kingdom Music

Forming in Italy in 2000 and claiming to be a “Techno Power Thrash” band, Eversin are on their second (with just short 7 tracks) album, titled ‘Divina Distopia’. The band were originally named Fvoco Fatvo, but then in 2009 changed their name to Eversin, a much easier to pronounce band name. So intrigued by the badly spelled press release sent to me saying that they are “Italian Techno Power Thrash” I was quite excited to give these guys a listen.

Straight away after pressing play I notice that ‘Eversin’ are definitely not a “Power Thrash” band as stated, more aptly sounding power metal. There doesn’t seem to be much to the first track ‘Act 1 – Strangers in a Strange Land;’ the riffs are too dull and the vocals seemingly do not fit with any of the music. The drumming is also dull, listening to it makes you feel like the drummer just can’t be bothered!? ‘X.E.N.O.S’ the second track, opens with a not too bad little riff, but again is spoilt by a tinny drumming beat which doesn’t fit right with the guitars and vocals. The vocals sometimes sound too cheesy even for power metal. Just after the middle section it kicks in with some piano work, which again, does not fit; it sounds like you’re playing two entirely different cd’s at the same time. However, toward the end of the track there is a nice piece with mellow keyboards, vocals and guitars, which to me is the only good part of the track. The last song on the album ‘In My Dreams They Live’ begins with quite a beautiful chilling acoustic guitar part, then after around 30 seconds adds the vocals and drumming. So far so good, this track gels well together even if it does feel a little simple. However I was a little saddened to find the track just faded out instead of a well deserving epic ending to it.

I’m afraid I wasn’t too impressed all in all with this album. The music doesn’t go well together. It feels like there are 3 totally different bands crammed into one and they are all doing their own thing… or maybe they are just trying too hard to be something different? I will give a thumbs up for the last track on the album, which gave me quite a shock with the beautiful acoustics. The album does have its moments but it’s overpowered with bad points.
