Artist: Titus Tommy Gunn
Title: La Peneratica Svavolya
Type: Album
Label: Mystic Production

Acid Drinkers member Titus brings to the world more rock and roll rather than the crossover thrash of one of Poland’s most famous bands outside of death metal. Now on paper, that sounds a little weird, but this 3-piece, including Tomasz Olszewski on Guitar and Viking on drums, make a heavyweight bash ‘n’ roll, as if Motorhead had been challenged to a drinking competition. Tomasz (the other one, not Titus!) also claims to be called Lemmy; of all the cheek of it! Take also a Liza Minnelli cover version (‘The Singer’) and you have listeners eating out of the palm of your hand.

‘Varran’s 10’ has a frantic bass run at the start, before going into some recognisable tirades of simple chord patterns, a few eccentric fills give the listener a break, the vocals do tend to be a little lost on this one track, it’s difficult to distinguish them, there is such an emphasis on bass, and a ripping guitar sound, but at the end of the day, who really cares; this is full of energy and it’s likable. You get full force hammer blows and curious time changes; in fact, the many stops and bass interludes are what actually smacks you right in the face and making you take note. Rest assured, you can very quickly get back to the simple headbanging pleasure of the ‘La Peneratica Svavolya’ album. ‘Grand + Snow + Gorilla’ has bloody great guitar solos and a really ball busting bass solo with simple 4-4 snare bashing, but then you get headfucked and get forced to slow down. This really does make you almost anticipate everything after a while; what will come next? Not content with brandishing a war machine of rhythm, Titus Tommy Gunn have the foresight to make you, the listener, appreciate the arrangements whilst still being able to party as hard as your battered brain can take. The good times keep on coming with ‘One Scotch Please’ and opener ‘The Bitch is (Still) Dead’. This is a party anthem album, both high octane and full of the right kind of testosterone.

Anyone with a passion for Motorhead simply must buy this; it may not be as in your face as it could be, there is a lot of bass experimentation as you might expect from a bassist’s solo project, but this is an interesting release and shows a different talent of worthy disposition.
