Artist: Glyder
Title: Yesterday, Today And Tomorrow
Type: Album
Label: SPV

Yesterday, Today And Tomorrow is the third album from Irish melodic rockers Glyder and it really shows the band moving into a class of their own. They’ve retained all the infectious melodies and addictive hard rock hooks of their self titled debut and its acclaimed follow up Playground For Life, but this time there’s an added maturity and unquestionable confidence. Slow burning opening track ‘That Line’ is enough to make it clear that Glyder are a band realizing all their plentiful potential. Touring with rock giants like Thin Lizzy, Dio, W.A.S.P., Blue Öyster Cult, Y&T...the list just goes on and on, is a fantastic education for any band and Glyder have clearly learned their lessons well. Indeed, Y&T’s six string wizard Dave Meniketti was impressed enough by the band’s talents to add one of his customary blistering solos to the song ‘Yesterday Today And Tomorrow’. But while the odd illustrious guest slot is always a nice touch it’s Glyder’s own abilities that impress most – their song writing in particular. ‘That Line’, ‘Innocent Eyes’, ‘Always The Loser’; they’re all songs that bear the hallmark of true rock classics to be, songs with a place in the great ever-evolving history of rock. There are ghosts of Thin Lizzy, Mama’s Boys and even the occasional hint of The Beatles in the Glyder sound but they have a definite identity of their own and the guitar work of Bat Kinnane and Pete Fisher is at times a real joy to listen to. Take note – there are three bonus tracks tacked on the end of my CD. ‘Time To Fly’, ‘All You’ve Done’ and ‘Elverstown’ are each as strong as any of the regular album tracks, with ‘Time To Fly’ particularly impressing, so make sure your copy has these songs. Looks like good old classic melodic rock has a future as bright as it’s past is glorious.
