Artist: Kinn
Title: Kinn
Type: EP
Label: Unsigned

Okay, I’ll confess; the second I opened the envelope that contained this EP from Birmingham four piece Kinn, I wanted to dislike it and rubbish it. It’s undoubtedly a combination of jealousy at being confronted by a picture of the band; four seriously young, razor cheek-boned lads, and their sculpted, extravagant fringes. What can I say; I’m fat, forty, my first proper gig was a sweat pit with Motorhead in the mid eighties, and I want my rock stars to look like Lemmy! However, I was wrong to pre-judge the band from their promo picture, and am happy to say so. Far from being the emo-tinged shouting with one arm jammed up behind their back rubbish I expected, Kinn has produced three tracks of well crafted, classic rock.

‘Want Me, Need Me’, has solidly played rock riffs, complimenting the clean vocal skills and cocksure swagger of front man Nikki, whilst ‘Hole World Down’ adds a few bluesy hints to the guitar work in the verses, nice vocal harmonies enhancing the chorus. ‘All Alone’ is the undoubted highlight of the EP, with the vocals being particularly strong, with more then a hint of a young Paul Rogers being apparent in the vocalist’s range and sustain, lifted by the competent musicianship of the rest of the band.

If fans of Thunder are looking for a new band to carry on the tradition of classic British Blues Rock, they could do a good deal worse then checking out Kinn.
