Artist: Insane Therapy
Title: Veil of Silence
Type: EP
Label: Self Released
I do like receiving short EPs of about four or five tracks as is the case with this offering from Italy’s Insane Therapy who I correctly had for being a metalcore outfit judging by the logo and cover. The band definitely has traits of that style but the vocals are far more brutal and lean towards the deathcore side of brutalism. Opening track “One Thousand Why” has an old style deathrash riff but a melody that is very much in the metalcore genre. The blend of deathly drumming gives the deathcore angle away though the band tends to swing from one genre to another within each song. The half clean vocals and beatdown are backed up by gang chanted chest beating grunts hence the core tagging I keep using here.
“Where’s Your God” is similar to the opener with the intensity notched up but balanced by good melodies and a huge slam riff similar to established acts like Suicide Silence and Parkway Drive. This is not an intense as say Annotations Of An Autopsy or as mild as say Misery Signals but sits somewhere between the two and comfortably too I might add. This is as enjoyable EP as the last two songs prove that these Italians are capable of hitting very hard when needed. “Can Your Hear Me?” is a varied tune that has a good opening riff that shifts into metalcore territory but instead of resorting to yawning breakdowns the band uses a shift in riff and injects good melody as I found the clean vocals OK for a change in this style. The closing title track begins with a great riff, a blast and a scream that seems to linger for ages before fading away. The tune is very catchy with that inescapable metalcore groove, complete with big beatdowns and gang chanted vocals. Insane Therapy doesn’t exactly offer too much new but at least the band is prepared to shift genre to keep the music entertaining.
