You don’t need to be genius to work out what style of music these Brazilian brutes are intended to kick your head in with. I didn’t expect much in terms of ingenuity or creativity here but then again why would I. A demonic intro does little to prepare you for the battering snare work and guttural vocals unleashed on opener “Obliteration Of Mass Deceit”. The riffs are predominantly thrash based though the tone is lower obviously. The bands injection of double bass offers some respite from the Cattle Decapitation blast snare similar to that used on their “To Serve Man” album or even Monstrosity’s debut. The band also uses modern death metal techniques such as alternating double bass kick rhythms with the slam like riffs.
There is very little let up on this album as L+C do their level best to pummel you into oblivion with a succession of vicious riffs and pulverising drum work which lacks imagination but does what its supposed to do. “Cephalic Crusher” is full on death metal carnage that lapses into a grind beat occasionally. My mind kept shifting to Slayer’s “Show No Mercy” and “Hell Awaits” albums for the riffing style and though I tried not to think about this it kept popping up randomly all over the shop on this album, especially on the title track. “Mundane Curse” has a similarity to Legion Of The Damned, another act using thrash riffs with death metal rhythm to increase the violence, though this is no where near as clean cut as LOTD. “Darkened Spite” has a very old Cannibal Corpse like riff as by now the similarity of the songs makes the album a bit repetitive.
It would be wrong for you to assume that this album is like deathrash of the late 80s and early 90s. It is more in the way of influence than a blend of styles. I’d prefer the band to keep the riffing style and stark production but vary the drum work a lot more which isn’t rubbish but just needs a little more technicality overall. I wonder how people chant this bands name at gigs in their home country as it is certainly a mouthful. Give yourself a Brazilian bludgeoning.
