More Rogga goodness! Yes Rogga Johansson, the Demiurg, Ribspreader, Paganizer etc etc mastermind has added another name to his seemingly endless death metal CV. To help him create the Bloodgut sound he’s roped in drummer Matte Fiebig – a tried and tested colleague from Ribspreader, Paganizer and Carve – and the end results are predictably excellent. Excellent, if you like it basic and brutal to the point of retardation. Everything is down tuned so far you can hear that the strings are hanging from the guitar neck like flopping lengths of intestine and the effect is some nasty, scary filth. Totally bereft of frills and fripperies, if you were sat on the floor of the rehearsal room while Rogga and Matte blasted these songs directly into your face it wouldn’t sound much different. Lyrically speaking it’s zombies, zombies and more zombies and they’re all eating flesh...constantly. Especially that of the local clergy. Chris Reifert worshipers, lovers of Autopsy and Abscess, should find this album a one way ticket to dirty death metal heaven, with its guitars buzzing like a cloud of blood fattened flies over a fresh corpse. What really sets this album apart from so many of a similar ilk though is the quality of the songs – the doom drenched ‘The Undead World’, the sinister filth of ‘In The Butcher Hole’, the atmospheric conclusion provided by ‘March Of The Bloodgut’ and the thunderous title track – there are horrible highlights everywhere you look. It’s another triumph for the uncrowned king of death.
