The Swedish glam rockers were made in 1997 and have released 6 full length albums and a whopping 14 singles (including a few number 1’s in the Swedish music charts). Their album ‘Thank You For Letting Us Be Ourselves’ featured a guest appearance from Hanoi Rocks’ Michael Monroe, and after supporting legends ACDC and Motorhead on their Italian tour its quite clear these Swedes have something to offer. Now on their seventh full length album ‘Split Your Lip’ we can delve into what else these hairspray fanatics have to offer.
‘Sadistic Girls’ the first track off the new album has a raunchy/sleazy guitar riff and with the equally sleazy vocals it’s a pure win! The overall sound on this track is a typical song you’d hear in a strip club... excellent! A brilliant start to the album. ‘Guestlist’ is a cracker and sure as hell would get me on the dance floor. With its catchy chorus and guitar riffs throughout I’m thinking very much of LA glam icons Faster Pussycat, which can’t be a bad thing!.
All of the tracks are quality in the view of catchy choruses and stunning guitar riffs, including the two tracks mentioned above, but also ‘Moonshine’ stood out with the groovy intro which made me want to bop my head from side to side and jump about like a complete idiot ( I haven’t drank enough yet thank you). ‘Here Comes The Sick Bitch’ isn’t at all what I’d expected! With a title like that I was expecting something angry and up-tempo, but instead it’s quite a beautiful acoustic/vocal piece with heartbroken lyrics.
Ok, so the intro is a bit/ a lot Metallica like... but ‘Honeymoon’ is a belting track. The lyrics sounding like .. “Stuck up, ya fuck up, who don’t stand up, just like a hiccup I’m sick of... “Catchy indeed! Possibly my favourite track on the album. The bass lines and guitar riffs staunchy and filthy, perfect for a glam Sleaze track!. Last but not least ‘Run to Your Mama’ is a perfect ending to a quality album, no drums, no guitars, just a bit of keyboard tomfoolery and vocals. Great for chilling out after all that jumping about like a crazy nutjob.
Being a huge fan of 80s Glam Metal I was a bit concerned and ready to give a not so brilliant review, thinking this band was going to be just another wannabe glam band. Wrong again, they delivered a fine album of killer tracks with catchy choruses, groovy riffs and bouncy drum beats. Sounding like an authentic yet polished up 80s hair band, I’m loving these and definitely looking forward to seeing them live.
