Bavarian Brutal Death/Grind merchant Macabre Demise is elusive; little information exists, but previously releasing a 4-way split with the likes of Tools of Torture, this German one-man band/project (Andreas Rieger) happily brutalises your stereo with audible violence. Taking much from fellow countrymen Defeated Sanity’s approach to death metal, adding some grind blast beats here and there for good measure, this is quite nice to listen too, nice but not amazing, this genre kind of merges into one sound for me it has to be said. But, that aside, take on enough red bull energy drink and you’re in hyper brutal death. ‘Braindead Flesh Eating Bastard’ whilst being a comical title, endures with your listening pleasure. To the non-metal head, this is a mass of noise and grunting just for the hell of it, in some ways yes, I suppose it is, but then sit back and enjoy the power that will blow out of your speakers. The production is pretty intense, this is the one thing I like about this genre, and the sound blows your mind even if I do think that this is far below a standard of musical arrangements I normally associate with good music, but there is no denying the musical proficiency on display. One-man projects are always difficult to take seriously, a lot exists in the brutal medium for some reason, but it is a good starting point for musicians to learn their trade. Continuing in zombieland is ‘Return of the Walking Dead’ and ‘Splatter Day’; these are decent enough tunes, but nothing out of the box. There lacks sustain or warmth, electronic trickery has gone mad in this genre, but then again, it would not sound so tight if it were not buggered about with (the sound that is!).
This release will tempt the extreme death metal heads, but if you like a little melody or a tune or two, don’t bother with this; it will be too much to take in, Macabre Demise will blow your balls off one way or another!
