So, D.R.I. vocalist Kurt Brecht gets a new band together with mates from Dead Horse and Verbal Abuse and brings out a new E.P. including songs about drinking beers with zombies! Should be a no brainer really! Yep no shit, you got that right and this was instantly identifiable as it tore in delivering speed hardcore, thrash, and punk just like I thought it was going to. Calling themselves an “all-scar Texas thrash band” PND rip through five songs here in 15 minutes and they should come with a warning as they are catchy as fuck. It’s easy to mention some other classic bands whilst covering this, Black Flag, Minor Threat and even Suicidal Tendencies are all on the tip of my tongue as I blast this out, as well of course as those Dirty Rotten Imbeciles themselves.

Delivering a sense of humour and embedding it in your head with repetition, songs like ‘Spell It Out’ which does just that are infectious numbers which make me want to go grab a skateboard and try not to wipe out. Bones are not as young as they used to be and this throwback sound is going to be dangerous for those listening to it and trying to reach out and grab their youth back. It does make me think of all these bands that are bringing back thrash, spearheaded by certain record labels piling them up and spitting them out in the hope that they can make a fast buck. These are survivors from the early 80’s who did it properly the first time around and are just as good 20 years down the line. Sure a song like ‘100 Beers With A Zombie’ isn’t going to rewrite any rule books but it is a fun song even if it’s 100 tribes of kids who discovered beer and zombies and got in on the act since then. If you want a short sharp fix to glug a beer down to and reminisce about all those great crossover acts from the past this is certainly going to hit the mark. As new slacker anthem ‘Failure’ dies in the background you can admit you’re shit all over again. Doh!
