Swedish hard rockers Bonafide from Malmö are fresh faced and ready to attack the world with their classic hard rocking sounds. Having spent two years since the release of their debut album perfecting their sound and coming up with new cracking tunes, the band are about to embark on a substantial European tour (the UK once again gets shafted) in support of this sophomore release ‘Something’s Dripping’ that was recorded in Musicamatic studios in Gothenburg, Sweden with acclaimed producer Chips Kiesbye (The Hellacopters).
Mia Coldheart of Crucified Barbara also appears on the album, in the duet ‘Straight Shooters’ that in itself helps to build an already totalised vocal delivery and enhances the listening pleasure even more. In general you get the inkling towards early UK hard rock purveyors Free, Mott the Hoople and other more metal greats (see later text!), Pontis Snibb’s vocals are quite classic rock orientated whilst the band go between AC/DC, Krokus (musically too) and Buckcherry via homage to the Stones, Free and big wonderful British rock and roll from the dawn of that great era. You have to give the band credit for paying respect to some cool bands, I mean ‘Dirt Bound’ could have easily been penned by AC/DC, Steelheart or D.A.D. Simple riffs, constant 4/4 drum and bass beats, simply high octane fuel to keep your feet tapping to the beat constantly throughout the track. This is full of fun and thunder, plenty of blues based ripping tracks, such as the hellraising ‘Hard Livin’ Man’, with a nice change in the chorus vocal melody wise. The tracks on offer are not complicated, they don’t need to be, heads down, balls out rock and roll. There maybe a lot of comparisons in this review, but I think it would only be fair to describe this band how I see it, its not original music, but it’s a damn good listen.
Out of the 11 tracks on offer, I have not found one single turkey or filler track, the whole albums fills you with a young heart and young aggression for want of a better word. Yeah ok, every man and his dog are releasing retro classic rock right? This is the music we love, look through the years, its always been there, just not so much in the media, however, every genre suffers from this trait, that is why we like the music in the first place though isn’t it? A “Bonafide” hard rockin’ classic album by anyone’s standards.
